People with Visual Impairments
STO Attendant privileges and CNIB Foudation cards
The STO attendant privileges card and the CNIB Foudation card allows persons accompanying riders with visual impairments free access to the services of the Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) when they use our transportation services with the person they are accompanying. However, the rider being accompanied must pay the applicable fare.
Bus hailing kit
To ensure that people with visual impairments can travel safely, the STO offers a bus hailing kit.
The kit contains cards with numbers on them. To board a bus, riders with a visual impairment must clearly show the driver of the approaching bus the combination of numbers for the bus route that they must take to get to their destination. An indication in Braille allows riders to clearly identify the cards.
Note that for all riders with visual impairments, the standard way to show that they wish to board the bus when waiting at a stop is to raise their hand.
