The Ligne Verte Experience

Known as the Ligne verte (green route), the STO embarked on this project as part of the Urban Transportation Showcase Program (UTSP), with financial contributions from Transport Canada and the Quebec Ministry of Transport, and the participation of the cities of Gatineau and Montreal. The program aimed to support projects being carried out by different organizations in Canada in order to test sustainable transportation options.

Running from 2007 to 2009, the Ligne verte project involved a set of measures to make public transit more appealing along the Gréber corridor, where seven regular buses and two hybrid diesel-electric buses operated.

All the measures introduced by the STO, including the two hybrid buses and the Ligne verte infrastructures, helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,000 tonnes, which is equivalent to removing 200 vehicles from the roads in the region.
