Public transit reference guides

The STO has updated two public transit reference guides (available in French only), one about design and service standards, and the other about planning principles and universal accessibility. The update of these two guides, which were initially developed in 1992, takes into account the evolution of the system and its new features, among them the arrival of the Rapibus. The diversification of the vehicle fleet, including the articulated buses, must also be incorporated into the new practices, as well as the component on universal accessibility.

Guide des principes d'aménagement et d'accessibilité universelle

The Guide des principes d'aménagement et d'accessibilité universelle is a reference document that reaffirms the need for integrated planning between land development and public transit service. It underscores the importance of considering public transit in the land-use planning and development of neighbourhoods and new building projects. This document is consistent with one of the goals of the STO's 2017-2026 strategic plan: to play an active role in land-use planning and development for the benefit of an efficient, accessible public transit system.

Guide de conception et de normes de services

The Guide de conception et de normes de services formalizes and modernizes the standards surrounding the review process for the services offered. This document covers all the fundamental aspects of planning public transit service, including the minimum level of service, supply management, and information for patrons. It provides a set of principles to help guide the STO in planning, reviewing and adjusting the services it offers. The guide contains the main directions that will become the objectives to reach. To achieve this, the STO will develop an action plan to align gradually with these standards.
