Start of Work on the Future Allumettières Terminus and Park-and-Ride

Published : 05-11-2011

The Société de transport de l’Outaouais (STO) would like to inform the public that work on the Allumettières terminus and incentive parking facility started this week and will continue until mid-August.

The Allumettières terminus and park-and-ride is located at the corner of Eardley and Hautes-Rives in the Aylmer sector. It will have 119 parking spots for public transit riders. The new facilities will open to the public at the end of August.

The terminus will provide patrons in the far west end of the city with local service and public transit to the downtown areas of the Hull sector and Ottawa, which will help to reduce traffic, especially in rush hours during the week.

The work includes installing traffic lights and pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Eardley and Hautes-Rives, and aligning Allumettières with Hautes-Rives. The STO will also carry out work on the roadway, sidewalk and curb, a bicycle path and lighting on Hautes-Rives between Génois and Eardley. Earthwork, paving, concrete work, and installing fences, lighting and landscaping at the terminus and park-and-ride are also on the list of tasks to be completed. In addition, a service building for drivers will be built at the terminus, and street furniture, a bus shelter, a bicycle shelter and stands, and surveillance cameras will be added.

“This new STO facility responds to a constantly growing demand for public transit and at the same time optimizes the service in the city’s western sector,” stated STO Chairman Patrice Martin.

With the completion of the Allumettières incentive parking, the STO will have 19 park-and-ride facilities, for a total of 2,233 free parking spots for public transit patrons.

The total cost of the project is $2,164,028. The Quebec Ministry of Transport is funding $1,974,066 of the project under the public transit assistance program. The work will be carried out by Construction DJL Inc.
