Description of the sculpture
Created by multidisciplinary artist Marie-France Brière from Montreal, this work, titled Moraine, is dedicated to De la Cité station along the Rapibus as part of the Quebec's Politique d'intégration des arts à l'architecture et à l'environnement.
This work unites two accordion shapes made of perforated stainless steel and black-veined white marble recalling the topography of the mountains and the meandering rivers through their sinuous shape on the ground. The perforated sections create an effect of transparency in the urban landscape and of movement accented by the active presence of people walking in the area. Lighting embedded in the granite paving on the ground illuminates the sculpture.
Portrait of the artist Marie-France Brière
Marie-France Brière is a multidisciplinary artist from Montreal who received a Masters in Visual Arts from Université du Québec à Montréal in 1989. Ms. Brière focuses on public art, and has created many projects both inside and outside buildings, namely at John Abbott College, Concordia and McGill universities, Quebec's Conservatoire d'art dramatique et de musique, the Society for Arts and Technology and the Cinémathèque Québécoise. Over the years, Ms. Brière has been the recipient of a dozen grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.
