Restructuring in the Aylmer Sector : The STO's Online Consultation

As part of its efforts to restructure the system in the Aylmer sector, the Société de transport de l'Outaouais (STO) is launching an online information and consultation process. From today until April 3, 2016, the public and riders are invited to go to the STO's Web site to share their comments about the improvements proposed for this coming fall.

Among other things, the restructuring is intended to better address the current mobility needs of the public in the western part of Gatineau, which has seen strong residential development in the last few years. “The system in Aylmer was last restructured in 2007. The urban landscape has evolved since then and the STO would like to adapt the service it offers accordingly by conducting a more detailed review of its system,” explained STO Chairman Gilles Carpentier. “Citizen involvement is an important component of this review process,” he added.

In general, the changes being made are designed to offer direct, more frequent access to the centre of Aylmer, to make trips within Aylmer and towards other sectors easier, to reduce the pressure on the incentive parking facilities and to make connections easier. Among the proposed changes, to make it easier for riders to board in the Hull sector during the afternoon peak period and to reduce travel times, routes in the 40 series will no longer stop at the Rivermead Park-and-Ride so that they can serve the neighbourhoods directly. However, the number of trips on route 59 will be increased based on demand in order to continue to serve this incentive parking lot adequately. This route will also be extended to the Allumettières Park-and-Ride by going along Aylmer Road, Principale and Eardley. In addition, a new route will make trips within the Aylmer sector easier at any time. Also, during the week, route 800 will take the Pont Noir bridge to improve the link between Galeries Aylmer and Labrosse station, with an increased frequency of 30 minutes during peak periods.

All the comments received will be analysed once the consultation process has ended. The final service proposal will be submitted for the Board of Directors' approval on April 28, 2016.
